1st April 2018 EASTER SUNDAY – CHRIST IS RISEN – ALLELUIA, ALLELUIA

Dear Friends

Christ has Risen – Alleluia. From the humble and anonymous setting of the stable where Jesus was born, through life as short as it was, to the Upper Room and the gift of the Eucharist, the way of the cross and death – but like the hymn line goes: “We know that death (in the flesh) is not the end”. Today and for the rest of our lives we celebrate the RESURRECTION. If we can believe in Jesus triumph over death and heed the words he spoke at the Last Supper, “I your Lord and Teacher, has washed your feet. You then, should wash one another’s feet” (John 13:14) we should see life differently. Length of days or accumulation of goods will not be the measure of life following the Lord, but how many times have we seen and responded to the need for washing the feet of others. It is a metaphor for the word “service”, which is not often looked on as a successful career option. Yet it is the greatest calling of all, for Jesus said “Come follow me”.

We look forward to becoming more engaged in the discussion and diversity of our parish community. Bishop Richards’s message of thanks now follows, but we must not sit on our hands until his Pastoral Plan appears. To that end, the Parish Pastoral Council will be striving to add a voice and encouragement to all who wish to take part.

Message from Bishop Richard:

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your engagement with the Consultation Process that has been taking place across the Deaneries during these last months. I have been very encouraged by the way in which people have reflected on the Mission of the Diocese and the way in which we can all be engaged in carrying it out in the years ahead. The responses, gathered at the second round of meetings, are a key element in the development of a Pastoral Plan for the Diocese.

Now that this round of meetings is complete, I shall work with a small team to write the Pastoral Plan. I shall be coming around the Deaneries again later in the year to present this plan. Please keep this endeavour in your prayers, that all in the Diocese will focus ever more deeply on the Word who is Life, who calls us to be His people and to be His witnesses in the world.

With every Blessing

Richard
