Music Group

The Music Group is a small group of enthusiastic and committed people who aim, through music, to lead parishioners in their worship.

We sing at the 10.30am Mass every other Sunday and on special occasions when asked.

We meet on a Thursday evening (7.45 – 9.15pm in the church or parish room) on a fortnightly basis to rehearse the music for the following Sunday. During festival seasons we meet every week to rehearse the music for Easter and Christmas (including Lent and Advent). Rehearsal and Mass dates are always posted in the foyer.

On the Sundays when the music group are not singing, some members still gather around the organ or piano to provide (unrehearsed) music at the 10.30am Mass.

We participate in music events in the parish (eg the “Musicathon”) usually to raise funds for a worthy cause. We are also sometimes asked to sing at weddings and funerals, and have sung for a wedding at Godalming. This provides a small income which may be used for musical scores or music stands or contributes towards a social occasion. We also sometimes attend music days organised by the diocese or by Catholic or Ecumenical worship groups.

We are a friendly, informal group, led by two members who have no qualifications in music but are passionate about keeping music alive in the parish and about worshiping through song. Our mantra is St Augustine’s prayer “To sing is to pray twice”.

We welcome new members at any time. We currently have a pianist / organist, 2 flautists and a tambourine player. We would love more instrumentalists as well as singers. All we ask is that you can sing in tune, have a sense of humour and enjoy music. As we are not music teachers, instrumentalists will need to be at approximately grade 4 or 5.

We welcome feedback about the music we provide as we are constantly trying to develop and improve our offerings.

Please approach us after any 10.30 Mass if you are interested in joining us. We would be very happy to discuss anything further with you. Alternatively, contact the Parish office on 01276 504876 or email them at
